If you have moved photos off an iPhone and Windows refuses to open them, this is the conversion you need. HEIC is Apple’s default camera format, and while it stores excellent quality in half the space of a JPG, Windows wants a paid codec extension to display it and countless websites reject it outright. Converting to JPG makes the photo open anywhere, on anything, immediately.

Before you convert: JPG cannot store transparency. Any transparent area in your HEIC file will be filled with a solid background colour — white by default. If you need the transparency preserved, convert to PNG or WebP instead.

Before you convert: JPG does not support animation. If your HEIC file is animated, only the first frame is converted.

Before you convert: Both formats are lossy, so the image is re-encoded once. The quality loss is minor at default settings, but avoid repeatedly converting the same file back and forth.

About HEIC files

HEIC has been the default photo format on iPhone since iOS 11 in 2017, and it stores roughly the same image quality as JPG in about half the space. That efficiency comes at the cost of compatibility: Windows needs a paid codec extension from the Microsoft Store, most Android devices cannot open it, and a great many websites reject it on upload. This single compatibility gap is why HEIC to JPG is one of the most-searched conversions on the web.

Common questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs entirely inside your browser using your own device’s processor. Your HEIC file is never transmitted, never stored, and never seen by us — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.

Is there a file size or daily limit?

There is no daily limit and no account required. Because your device does the work rather than our server, we have no per-conversion cost to recover. The practical ceiling is your device's available memory — very large files on older phones may fail, in which case convert them in smaller batches.

Can I convert several HEIC files at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many HEIC files as you like and they are converted one after another, then offered as individual downloads or a single ZIP.

Will I lose the transparent background?

Yes — JPG has no way to store transparency, so transparent pixels are filled with a solid colour. Convert to PNG or WebP if the transparent background matters.

Will the quality drop?

JPG is a lossy format, so some data is discarded. We default to a high quality setting where the difference is not visible on normal viewing, and you can raise or lower it before converting.

Why will Windows not open my HEIC files?

Windows does not ship with the HEVC codec that HEIC depends on, and Microsoft charges for the extension that adds it. Converting to JPG sidesteps the problem entirely — no codec, no purchase, no software to install.
