Two ways to compress
By quality is the right choice most of the time. You pick a quality level and every image is re-encoded at it. Around 75% is the sweet spot for photographs — usually half the file size or better, with no difference visible at normal viewing size.
By target size is for when you have a hard limit to meet: an upload form that rejects anything over 2 MB, an email attachment cap, or a job application that demands a photo under 200 KB. Because the relationship between quality and file size is neither linear nor predictable from one image to the next, the tool encodes repeatedly at different quality levels to find the best one that fits — and tells you which it settled on.

Resizing usually beats compressing
If a file is far larger than you need, the dimensions are more often the cause than the compression level. A 4000-pixel-wide phone photo displayed in an 800-pixel column carries roughly twenty-five times the pixel data it needs. Halving the dimensions removes three quarters of the pixels before compression even starts, and looks better than aggressively compressing at full size. Resize first, then compress.
Common questions
Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs entirely inside your browser using your own device’s processor. Nothing is transmitted, stored, or seen by us — you can disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will still work.
What does "target size" do?
It compresses toward a byte budget you set. Quality-to-size is not a straight line and varies with every image, so the tool encodes repeatedly at different quality levels to find the highest quality that still fits, then tells you what it used.
Is there a file size or daily limit?
No. Your device does the work, so there is no per-file cost for us to recover and nothing to meter. The practical ceiling is your device’s memory — very large batches on a phone may need splitting up.
Which output format should I pick?
JPG for photographs that need to open anywhere. WebP when you need a transparent background preserved or want the smallest possible file for the web. WebP is typically 25–35% smaller than JPG at matching quality.
How much smaller will my images get?
For a typical phone photo at 75% quality, expect 50–80% smaller. Screenshots and graphics saved as PNG often shrink far more than that when converted to WebP. Images that are already well compressed will barely change, and the tool says so rather than pretending.
