Converting GIF to PNG is the standard fix for a logo or graphic with ugly, jagged edges. GIF transparency is binary — each pixel is either fully visible or fully invisible — which is what produces those hard fringes against a coloured background. PNG has a proper alpha channel, so edges become smooth. It also lifts the 256-colour limit entirely.
Before you convert: PNG does not support animation. If your GIF file is animated, only the first frame is converted.

About GIF files
GIF dates to 1987 and survives almost entirely because it animates. Its hard limit of 256 colours per frame makes it a poor choice for photographs, where it produces visible dithering and banding, but it remains universally supported for short looping clips. Its transparency is binary — a pixel is either fully visible or fully invisible, which is what causes the jagged edges seen on GIF logos.
